Standard Bank provides the spark to Moçambola in Chibuto

On March 17, Standard Bank animated the kick-off matches of the country’s main soccer competition - Moçambola, with a colored activation, marked by the brilliant performance of cheerleaders, the singer Marlene, and the musician, Xidiminguana, in a completely blue scenario.

During the celebration, the Chairman of the Standard Bank Board of Directors, Tomaz Salomão, pledged continued support of Standard Bank to the Mozambican Soccer League, “because we believe that soccer is a festival that brings people together, creates union and because we also believe that Mozambique still has a place to conquer in sports on the continent and that begins at club level”.

To complement its strong presence in that municipality, Standard Bank promoted the citizenship campaign by issuing

free of charge over 1.300 documents, including Identity Cards and Personal Birth Certificates,as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The social project promoted by the Moçambola Official Bank aims to facilitate the acquisition of important documents for citizens, creating the conditions to raise self-esteem in them and for their full enjoyment of citizenship as well as help to improve national statistics.

After touring the venue where the citizenship campaign was held, Tomaz Salomão said “this is an activity that fits within the social obligations of the bank to support communities in different parts of the country, which shows that we are a Bank that has national integration and wants to contribute to the socio-economic development of Mozambique and also for the well-being of people, in general”.

On his turn, the Mayor of Chibuto, Francisco Mandlate, said that the gesture of Standard Bank is a great help to the citizens of Chibuto: “Due to the participation of the Chibuto Club in Moçambola-2012 through a partnership between Standard Bank and the Mozambican Soccer League, today we benefited from this grant to support the social area, which is a great prize for Chibuto”, explained the Mayor.

He further explained that the campaign developed by the Bank “is a significant support for many residents who had not yet managed to get their identity cards, including the birth registration of their children”.
