Standard Bank supports beach volleyball team

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Standard Bank has provided support valued at 240.000 meticais, to encourage and make the national women’s beach volleyball team more competitive in their fight for a place during the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The support provided by such institution consists of official game equipment, sports equipment and also by reinforcing the pocket money to the athletes and the technical staff from the Mozambican Volleyball Federation, in order to participate in training prior to the competitions held in Rio de Janeiro and also for the participation in the final phase of qualifying for the Olympic Games, taking place from the 22th to 27th of May, in Rwanda.

The national team for beach volleyball, composed by sisters Amelia and Rezia Cumbi, Guilhermina Cossa (Guigui) and

Satira Chongo will have as opponents, Rwanda, the host team, Algeria, Kenya, South Africa, Morocco and Congo. The winner will qualify for the London Olympics and the World Cup, while the second and third will qualify for the second round taking place in Italy in June.

Before leaving for Rwanda, the national women’s beach volleyball team held a courtesy meeting with members of the Standard Bank Executive Committee in Maputo, during which the team thanked for the support provided by Standard Bank.

According to Antonio Coutinho, managing director of Standard Bank, the women’s beach volleyball is a “sport which is constantly developing and it provides to Mozambique the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games with a team/group sport, which is something that might happen for the very first time”.

“Standard Bank also wants to plashow with this support that although it focuses on soccer, it is also aware of the needs of other sports and it will, whenever possible, support them”, explained Antonio Coutinho.

On his turn, the president of the Mozambican Volleyball Federation, Camilo Antao, said that the support Standard Bank is providing to the women’s beach volleyball squad represents an important contribution to the national team in their qualification for the London Olympic Games.

“We are expect to win and that depends on the concentration of our athletes at the moment of truth”, concluded Camilo Antao.

Economic Briefing 2013: Mozambique, a story of growth

Under the theme “Mozambique, a story of growth”, Standard Bank held on 18 April at the Hotel Polana in Maputo, the usual Economic Briefing, to provide its clients and the national market with trends of the national and global economy in order to guide them in decision making, in addition to show the “expertise” of the Bank in various specialty areas.

Standard Bank in the SME Conference

Standard Bank was represented at the conference by a stand to promote and sell products and services. The conference was on “Opportunities of credit for investment in SMEs-Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and the role of insurance,” which occurred on April 18, at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Centre in Maputo.
