BEIRA: “Agostinho Neto” School receives rehabilitated multi sports playground
As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, Standard Bank has proceed to the full rehabilitation of the playground of the complete Primary School Agostinho Neto, in Beira, whose inauguration took place on June 5th.
Equipped to decently accommodate physical education classes and games from various sports, the infrastructure has benefited from new paint job and lighting, in addition to the full rehabilitation of the cover.
At the inaugural ceremony of the project, Standard Bank offered to that education facility sports equipment consisting of balls, whistles, t-shirts, among others.
On the occasion, the managing director of Standard Bank, Antonio Coutinho said that the rehabilitation of the infrastructure and the supply of sports equipment have to do with the Bank’s strategy in the context of its social corporate responsibility: “Part of our strategy is to support sport, education, and other sectors of society. We also believe that the future of the country is based on the children“, he said.
According to the Director of Agostinho Neto Primary School, Paulo Johane, the playground, now rehabilitated, will provide to the 1,400 students of the school with a place to practice sport in a decent manner.
“As for the sports equipment, it will be very important, because these students were already in need of materials for the practice of sporting games“, he said thanking the support of Standard Bank that, in his perception, will bring another dynamic to the school, especially in physical education classes and in holding school competitions.
The seventh grade student, João Henriques, thanked Standard Bank for its support: “We had many difficulties because in the past we trained here without tables and when we threw the ball, it was very difficult to reach the basket.
Now, with the rehabilitated playground, we will try to improve our performance in the mini-basketball tournament that has just started“, said the boy. Gloria Luis, also a 7th grade student, said on the occasion that she was very happy for the new look that the playground had, after its rehabilitation: “Standard Bank has helped us a lot. The playground is beautiful and we can now play soccer, basketball and other sports in decent conditions“, said the student.
Meanwhile, Peter Mbiza, Director of Education and Culture, thanked Standard Bank for supporting the rehabilitation of the multipurpose school playground. “With this gesture, we hope other partners and businesses will follow the example of Standard Bank. As, it is in school, where we can identify and improve the elements of the sport that tomorrow will honour the name of this beloved country“, he said.
