Cariaco branch inaugurated
The new Standard Bank branch, the Cariaco branch, has been officially inaugurated in Pemba, the capital city of the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado. The inauguration ceremony of the Agency took place in Pemba on the 18th of January, but it has been opened since December 2015.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Ernesto Gove, the Governor of Cabo Delgado province, Celmira da Silva, the Mayor of
Pemba, Tagir Carimo, in addition to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Standard Bank, Tomaz Salomão, the Bank’s Managing Director, Chuma Nwokocha, among other board members and invited guests.
With this act, according to the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, economic agents, especially Small and Medium Scale Enterprises now have one more option for the promotion of their investments, essential to leverage the national economy, especially
in the province of Cabo Delgado, where more and more pointedly, challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs are posed in the field of logistics of mega-projects.
“Investments should also be oriented towards the productive sector, so that we can increase export levels and reduce imports, because only with determination of each and every one can we gradually reduce the deficit of our trade balance and thus ensure
sustainable development”, said the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique.
On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Standard Bank Mozambique, Tomaz Salomao, said that the new Cariaco agency is a space designed for, comfortable and personalized, entrepreneurs and families from Pemba and from other areas of Cabo Delgado can find all the financial solutions they seek to move forward.
On his turn, the Governor of the province of Cabo Delgado, Celmira da Silva, expressed at the time, the Government’s intention to contribute to restructure and strengthen the local private sector, with regards to training, financing and above all the provision of better services.
“We want the quality of products and services presented by our entrepreneurs to be world-class. So we see Standard Bank as a partner to a fruitful dialogue with the private sector on one hand, and with the Government to achieve the objectives we have set for ourselves”, explained Celmira da Silva.
For the Mayor of the municipality of Pemba, Tagir Carimo, there is absolutely no doubt that the new infrastructure will give an added value to the city of Pemba, both for its
economic importance and for its architecture: “This is the result of persistence and collaboration between two institutions, including the bank and the city”, he concluded.
