16 September 2010

A number of educational and recreational activities marked

the celebrations for the International Children’s Day at Standard Bank, involving not only children from the employees of the Bank, but also orphans from the responsibility of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique.

The festivities started early in the morning of June 19th, Saturday, with a visit to the National Museum of Geology in Maputo, where the youngsters had the opportunity to experience the rich and diverse collection of the mineralogical heritage of the country.

This was followed by the handout of donations, collected by children of employees of the Bank and handed to the orphans of the police, as well as 500 kits with school supplies, at a ceremony held at the PRM Social Center. On the occasion, and on behalf of the Minister of Interior, the general Commander of the Police, Jorge Khalau, thanked the gesture and recalled what he referred to as of usual practice from Standard Bank in its support to children in need, from that institution, calling for other institutions to follow the example of our Bank.

At the time, Jorge Khalau used the opportunity and urged the society to inform against the criminals who kidnap, molest and traffic children, stopping them from playing and having fun, breaking up a fundamental right of every child.

Standard Bank’s support to the international project Planet Earth was also a matter of reference in the celebration, and the Head of Human

Resources at Standard Bank, Hélia Campos, said at the occasion that the Bank supports that specific project “because it believes in the sustainable development of the Planet Earth, and also because we must do everything in power so that the current legacy of our planet is handed in good hands for future generations, to our children, the true inheritors of all that we have and do”.

To complete the festivities, were also developed various recreational activities on the premises outside of the Joaquim Chissano Conference Centre, among them painting faces, magic shows, sack race, etc., and many more.

In addition to this all children attended the storytelling session about the history of Banking told by the Head of Credit, Fausio Mussa. The day ended with cake cutting due to this date.
