Children’s tournament ends in celebration

The 1st edition of the Standard Bank Children’s Tournament ended, Saturday, March 9, with the achievement from the Complete Primary Schools of Sikwama, Matola “J” and Mussumbuluco in the city of Matola, as the big winners of the event, in men, in the categories of Traquinas (aged between 8 and 10 years), Benjamins (from 11 to 14 years of age) and Petizes (aged between 6 and 7 years), respectively.

Also part in this soccer competition, held in the Standard Bank Social Centre, in Matola, the Mussumbuluco Primary School won the first place in the categories of “Traquinas” and “Petizes”, while Unidade H Complete Primary School won in the category of Benjamins in women.

In addition to the soccer matches, the children’s sports celebration, which lasted for four weeks, was full of entertainment, including fun activities and lectures on nutrition, health and hygiene, drills and agility competitions.

In total, the event moved about 600 children from 10 complete primary schools of the city of Matola, which shared among themselves prizes in sports equipment worth 123 thousand meticais.

Held in parallel with this initiative, which aimed to stimulate children’s interest in sports, and especially soccer, Standard Bank has developed on-site, its social project called Citizenship Campaign, which resulted in the issuance of approximately 1.200 free biometric identity cards by the mobile brigade of Civil Identification Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.

Abdul Razac, in representation of Standard Bank, said, on the occasion, that the Bank believes that “soccer should be, in addition to the practice of sports, a great partner in civic education, instilling in young athletes a passion for sport and quest for self-respect, obtained through Fair-Play, so we want children to fully enjoy the celebration of soccer”.
