Maputo hosts Standard Bank Acacia Jazz
Maputo city will host, on November 30th, the first major edition of the Standard Bank Acacia Jazz, an annual festival that will feature the participation of world-class Mozambican musician Jimmy Dludlu.
The national guitarist, author of the best song – “Ha Deva” – from 2016 in Ngoma Mozambique, will join artists such as Judith Sephuma from South Africa, Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe and the well-known Banda Kakana from Mozambique.
During the press conference, held recently, in Maputo, Standard Bank’s marketing manager, Alfredo Mucavela, explained that the festival aims to enhance Mozambican music and to bring the bank closer and closer to its clients, in particular, and the Mozambican public, in general.
“The festival is called Acacia as a way to celebrate the capital of the country, Maputo city, and also put the City of Acacias as the convergence point of the national and world afro-jazz stars”, said Alfredo Mucavela, highlighting the partnership established with Maputo City Council and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, for the materialization of this initiative.
The advisor of the Minister for Culture and Tourism, Arnaldo Bimbe, indicated that Standard Bank’s cultural project fits perfectly with the Government’s objectives in the area of Culture and Tourism, which is why its ministry embraces and encourages the materialization of this festival.
Simão Mucavele, the councilor for Education, Culture and Sport of Maputo city, considered that the Standard Bank Acacia Jazz will help confirm the capital of the country by UNESCO, as part of the creative cities in the musical component.
It is important to emphasize that before the show, there will be lectures where music students will share experiences. And to entertain the public present on the day of the show, the author of “Ha Deva” promises to explore his latest album “In the Groove” and also revisit his classics.
Likewise, he will be followed by Banda Kakana, led by the excellent vocalist Yolanda and the excellent guitarist Jimmy Gwaza.
Among his many hits, the charismatic Oliver Mtukudzi will not leave the stage without first toasting the audience with his famous song “Todi” and Judith Sephuma will entertain the public with “A Cry, A Smile, A Dance”.
