Maputo hosts the biggest meeting of african startups
More than five hundred delegates, including innovators and investors, took part, in December 14th, at the third annual summit of Seedstars Africa, the continent’s largest gathering of startups aimed at discussing technological innovations and business ideas.
During the summit, which took place in Maputo city, were discussed the problems faced by African countries, and the solutions which include adoption of strategies applicable to the current technological innovation environment.
According to Chuma Nwokocha, managing director of Standard Bank, Seedstars’ main partner, this summit in Mozambique will contribute to the creation of a sustainable business ecosystem in the country by allowing potential innovators, entrepreneurs as well as established ones to access resources they need to materialize their ideas.
“Seedstars appears to be an excellent platform for presenting technology-based business ideas conceived by young Mozambicans, which places the country as a producer and not a mere consumer”, said Chuma Nwokocha.
In addition to supporting technological innovation, through its partnership with Seedstars, “Standard Bank has cooperated with Small and Medium Enterprises, which are the appropriate way for achieving the bank’s purpose of fostering inclusive growth in Mozambique”.
The creation of the Business Incubator, the partnership with Seedstars, the provision of investment funds and the design of specific products and services were pointed out by Chuma
Nwokocha as ways in which Standard Bank drives entrepreneurship and technological
innovation.
Seedstars technology director, Luís Rodrigues, believes that this event will bring more visibility to the startups ecosystem of Mozambique in particular and the African continent
in general.
“Through the startups present here, coming from 17 countries of the continent, people, particularly young people, will realize that it is possible to make creations. The most important thing is to realize that we can do something”, said Luís Rodrigues.
