Sharing the Christmas spirit with communities
As part of its social responsibility and in scope of the Christmas season,
Standard Bank, on 18th December, offered, on the different departments and clinics of the José Macamo General Hospital, in Maputo, 200 kits that consisted of toys and food baskets to children sick and hospitalized in this hospital and their respective families.
The initiative, entitled “Christmas for the sick and hospitalized” falls under Standard Bank’s Social Accountability program, supporting the public health, particularly of children, which represents one of the most fundamental pillars of this financial institution.
Speaking moments right after the activity, Maria Quadros, in the name of the Bank, explained that,Standard Bank has been promoting this initiative for the past five years in different health facilities in the country, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program.
“We are currently during the Christmas season, characterized by much joy and peacefulness of communities and we thought we could contribute, by sharing this joy with children in order to help them in their recovery period and bring special moments, as some of them may not have the opportunity to spend Christmas with their families”, said Maria Quadros.
Maria Quadros explained that this is the third consecutive year that employees from Standard Bank share the spirit of Christmas with children hospitalized at the José Macamo General Hospital, by offering kits that consist of toys, cars, balls and also food such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, among other.
On his, turn, Jotamo Come, Managing Director of the Hospital, commenting on the initiative said “Standard Bank has regularly expressed its solidarity with our hospital, particularly with children every year during the Christmas season, which is an act that we really appreciate for”.
“Some of our patients are poor, due to the fact that this hospital is located in the suburb area”, said Come, highlighting the fact that “this makes Standard Bank’s support even more valuable”.
In scope of this initiative, Standard Bank will also be promoting a Christmas party for children hospitalized at the Provincial Hospital of Quelimane, this coming Thursday, December 23rd.
