As part of the celebrations for the 125 years of Maputo city, the Prize will be awarded annually for the next three years, at the end of which its continuity will be evaluated by the promoters of the initiative.
Speaking during the launching ceremony, the managing director of Standard Bank, Antonio Coutinho, said that this is “to boost greater interest of journalists to the economic area as well as to stimulate the production of more concise reports that, in simple terms, to enable ordinary people to see the direction of our economy, so that they can master basic concepts such as inflation, exchange rate, among others”.
“It’s one more way of exalting the contribution of Media for the growth of the country in general, and the city of Maputo, in particular”, said Antonio Coutinho.
On his turn, Maputo city mayor, David Simango, thanked Standard Bank for having embraced this initiative, especially as patron of the festivities of the 125th anniversary of the capital city: “We recognize that, after receiving the invitation, Standard Bank accepted the challenge with great dignity, as it has given its face and substantial contributions so that the festivities of the 125 years of Maputo city can be a memorable milestone for the citizens”, explained the mayor of Maputo.
Interviewed during the launching ceremony of the Prize, senior economist from Standard Bank, Fausio Mussa said that “by joining the Maputo City municipality and establishing the journalism prize, Standard Bank aims to encourage interest in economic affairs by journalists so that, ultimately, the Mozambican citizen can have access to appropriate written or presented information in a very simple and approachable way”.
