Standard Bank Tournament closes in a festive way
The third edition of the Standard Bank Tournament, a sports event held as part of the celebrations for the 118 years of the establishment of Standard Bank in Mozambique, ended on Saturday, August 25th.
The tournament, which included soccer and basketball, ran for three weeks and had the participation of several banks and companies from other business areas. In Maputo, the final was held at the Standard Bank Social Centre and was well attended by employees and their families who wanted to witness this solemn moment.Speaking on the occasion,Bagasse Mahomed, Operations Director at Standard Bank,thanked the participants of the tournament, and explained that they were all winners for participating in the tournament. “It’s already a tradition of the Bank to promote this type of events because, over the years,Standard Bank has encouraged the practice of sports and socialization with other institutions”, said Bagasse, further explaining that “in this context, and particularly this year that the bank is 118 years old, we were more extensive and involved employees from other provinces of the country, where Standard Bank operates.In Maputo, we specifically involved Basketball, in addition to Indoor Soccer, while in the other provinces it was only Indoor Soccer, due to the limitations verified”.The Operations Director of Standard Bank also welcomed the participation of other banks in the tournament, including the Central Bank, Banco Terra, ProCredit, BCI, ABC, and Moza Banco and invited them to participate next year, in the celebration for the 119 years.On her turn, Celia Mabjaia, Standard Bank employee praised the Bank’s initiative in holding this tournament, as it promotes interaction among peers in the banking sector and the practice of sports.Luisa Mendes from BCI saluted Standard Bank for its 118 years,stating that “the work, we bank employees,carry out daily, needs to be complemented by the practice of sports, so I want to congratulate the Bank for the initiative”.Filipe Machava from the Central Bank, is of the opinion that Standard Bank should continue to promote this type of activity, not only to bring together employees from the bank, but also to encourage the practice of sports, consequently healthy habits within the banking family.
Note that during the closing ceremony of the tournament, entertained by the performance of a local renowned DJ, a fraternization lunch was served to the participants, during which the most exciting moment was the prize giving of trophies and medals to the winners.In women’s basketball, the championship title went to BCI,followed by LAM, Central Bank and Standard Bank. A similar situation occurred in the men’s basketball category, where BCI also emerged at the forefront, followed by Moza Banco, Central Bank and Standard Bank.With regards to indoor soccer, Central Bank won the tournament, ABC became the second top winner, followed by BCI and Standard Bank.
