Standard Bank adheres to tax collection services
The Revenue Authority (AT) signed, on July 27th, in Maputo, an agreement with Standard Bank for intermediation in the collection of Government taxes in order to broaden the tax base and bring services closer to taxpayers.
The agreement represents an important milestone for the tax administration towards banking tax collection services and is an extension to the previous agreement celebrated in 2012 for the implementation of the Single Electronic Window in the country, through Internet banking from Standard Bank.
On the occasion, Antonio Macamo, Standard Bank Director, said that in Standard Bank’s view this agreement represents a step forward in the Single Electronic Window project, which has shown an added value in collecting customs taxes for the Government, as well as facilitated doing business in Mozambique.
“By signing this agreement we express the recognition of Standard Bank to the Government’s efforts to broaden the tax base in order to provide the country with more resources for infrastructure development”, he said.
With this act, as Antonio Macamo further explained, Standard Bank reinforces its commitment to Government initiatives, as an active partner of the Government, by providing the business community and citizens all its electronic channels for the payment of taxes.
The Mozambican Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, who witnessed the signing of the agreement, described it as an extremely important act for the country, considering that tax collection services via banks is a crucial tool for the national revenue system, with its multiplying effect in improving the effectiveness of the administration of taxation and total collection.
