Standard Bank awards Champions of the Moçambola 2012 season
As part of its sponsorship in Moçambola, the first Division of National Soccer League, Standard Bank awarded prizes, on March 8, to the teams of the Maxaquene Sports Club (1st place) and the Ferroviario Club of Beira (2ndplace), with checks in the amount of 600 thousand and 150 thousand meticais respectively.
This is an initiative from Standard Bank in recognition of the effort made by to the two teams during the last season and it is a way of supporting them.
The prize giving ceremony to the champion and runner-up of the Moçambola 2012 occurred during the gala that launched the 2013 season of the main national soccer competition, which was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports,Fernando Sumbana and other sports leaders, partners of Moçambola, athletes and high figures of the Mozambican political landscape.
On the occasion, the representative of Standard Bank, Abdul Razac, said that “Standard Bank is present in Moçambola
because it believes in the potential of the sport and that it is one of the most visible elements of our national unity”.
“For Standard Bank, the legacy of athletes of international calibre that this country has produced should be continued, from Mario Coluna to Dominguez. That’s why, associated with the sponsorship of Mocambola, Standard Bank launched an initiative this year (the Children’s Tournament) that aims to encourage the practice of football by the children”, explained Abdul Razac.
Approached after receiving the prize in the value of 600,000 meticais, the Vice President of the Maxaquene Sports Club, Jose Roque, said that “the value will certainly contribute to the acquisition of various means for the improvement of the working conditions of the Club, particularly in the soccer discipline, sector for which the award is granted”.
The best scorer of Moçambola 2012, Edson Manjate, best known as Sonito, said he hoped “that there are more institutions to sponsor the National Soccer League, because the athletes, clubs and LMF needs it”. “I believe Standard Bank is providing all the support that is possible to Moçambola”, he said.
In the same event, Standard Bank was recognized by the Mozambican Soccer League (LMF), due to its contribution to the development of sport in the country, particularly soccer, for its role as one of the leading institutions that assured, through its support, that the Moçambola 2012 season occurred successfully.
Abdul Razac said that the recognition “is a proof of the support Standard Bank provides to the LMF to ensure that Moçambola is held successfully every year”.
