Standard Bank awarded Liga Desportiva from Maputo and Ferroviario from Nampula, as the champion and runner-up of the 2014 edition of Mozambique’s main soccer competition, respectively. The award ceremony took place on Friday, February 27th, during the launch of the 2015 edition of Moçambola.

The prize of 600,000 and 150,000 meticais, respectively, is included in the support that Standard Bank has provided to sport in general and Moçambola, in particular, to contribute to the growth of this competition.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Standard Bank, Tomaz Salomão, the connection to sport is part of the Bank’s Corporate Social Investment, hence the support to Moçambola. “Sport joins and brings joy to people and, above all, it reinforces the identity and national unity”.

About the prize, Mr. Salomão said that it aims to recognize the two best teams in last year’s edition of Moçambola, namely Liga Desportiva from Maputo and Ferroviario from Nampula. Only then will they be encouraged to do more for sport and soccer in particular.

In turn, Mahomed Makda, representative of Liga Desportiva from Maputo, said the prize, provided by Standard Bank is a major boost for the team and comes to live up to the support that Standard Bank has been providing to the sport, particularly to Moçambola.

“It’s always pleasant to be recognized. This has been a regular initiative of Standard Bank, acting as Moçambola sponsor. It is a gesture that magnifies soccer and its promoters, in this case Liga Desportiva from Maputo”, said Mahomed Makda.
