Standard Bank in the SME Conference

Standard Bank was represented at the conference by a stand to promote and sell products and services. The conference was on “Opportunities of credit for investment in SMEs-Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and the role of insurance,” which occurred on April 18, at the Joaquim Chissano Conference Centre in Maputo.

The event, which resulted from a partnership between the business newspaper and IPEME-Institute for the Promotion of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, was to create a platform for discussions on financing between the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises the commercial banks and regulating entities.

The performance of the monetary policy to encourage bank lending, the analysis of the financial system, credit products and investment access facilities, the constrains in the process to access credit, to investment and the approach to mitigate risk, including the role of insurance in the mobilization of credit to investment, constituted some of the main topics discussed at the conference.

As a Bank aligned with the objectives of the Government to make the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises sustainable, Standard Bank participated in the event, exposing its package of products and services aimed at this segment.

Asked at the event, the Director of Private Banking, Small and Medium Enterprises at the Standard Bank, Chuma Nwokocha, said the biggest role the Bank can play in the development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises is to help them to overcome the difficulties to access finance, because “we know that it is not because banks are unwilling to finance SMEs, but these also have structural difficulties of management.”

“We have been taken for granted as a partner to help SMEs to grow, which is why we are developing innovative products that will help SMEs to overcome the structural difficulties,” said Chuma Nwokocha, highlighting that Standard Bank has several loan products.
