Standard Bank joins the Gorongosa Business Club
Standard Bank is, as from 3rd of September, a member of the Gorongosa Business Club, an initiative that aims to encourage and involve the Mozambican business community, or the business community operating in Mozambique in the noble effort to restore one of the most emblematic natural reserves in Africa and worldwide.
As part of the agreement signed by the Managing Director of Standard Bank, Chuma Nwokocha, and the Director of the Gorongosa National Park, Mateus Mutemba, Standard Bank will support the Management Programme of the park’s Wildlife Sanctuary particularly in the restoration of part of the Zebra population of the crawshayi sub-species.
On the occasion, Standard Bank’s Managing Director, Chuma Nwokocha, said, “I decided to embrace this initiative, uniting resources to the government and other national and international institutions, for recognizing that the Park is one of the most valuable national treasures and, more importantly than being profitable and provide dividends to shareholders, the bank must be socially responsible and contribute to the well-being of the communities where it operates”.
On his turn, Director Mutemba said “Standard Bank makes a great contribution to join this management programme of wildlife sanctuary, a place that accommodates part of the existing Zebras in the Park, he further explained. Standard Bank supports more specifically the recovery programme of the Zebra population in the Gorongosa National Park, a charismatic and important species in the tourism domain and its role in the park’s ecosystem that is threatened of extinction in Gorongosa National Park”.
