Diverse sports equipment was offered on 12th April to primary and secondary schools of the city of Matola, in Maputo province, that have participated in the first edition of the Standard Bank Children’s Tournament during the months of February and March.

The material, consisting of soccer balls, whistles, chronometers, sneakers, tracksuits, sweatshirts, shorts, socks, fillers among others, was handed over to representatives of the ten schools that participated in the tournament, in a ceremony led by the Managing Director of Standard Bank, Antonio Coutinho.

During the ceremony, Coutinho said that the tournament was a great experience, once it has achieved the expected objective which was to stimulate children’s interest in sports, particularly soccer.

On his turn, the representative of the Primary School of Sikwama, Naldo Joaquim, found that “the equipment and the soccer balls will serve as impetus for the school to continue practising soccer and discover more talents”.

Note that the tournament was attended by more than 600 children and the big winners were the complete primary schools of Sikwama, Matola “J” and Mussumbuluco in the categories of Traquinas (from 8 to 10 years of age), Benjamins (from 11 to 14 years of age) and Petizes (aged between 6 to 7), respectively.
