Standard Bank promove campanha de cidadania em Chilembene
In the context of the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Samora Machel’s death, the first president of Mozambique after the independence, Standard Bank promoted on 20 and 21 October this year, in Chilembene village, in Gaza province, the free issuance of a total of 3,670 identification documents, including biometric identity cards (IDs), personal notes, birth certificates and NUITs – Taxpayer identification number.
This campaign, which took place in the historic birthplace of Samora Machel, is part of Standard Bank’s strategy to create conditions for the well- being of communities, and to facilitate citizens’ access to civil and taxpayer identification documents.
In this context, for two consecutive days, in the village of Chilembene, a mobile brigade of the National Directorate of Civil Identification (DNIC), the Registry and Notary authority and Revenue Authority of Mozambique have issued 1,642 civil identification documents, 720 birth records and 1,308 NUIT forms respectively.
Speaking about this initiative and the fact that it took place in the Samora Machel House Museum in Chilembene, the spokesman of the DNIC, Alberto Sumbana, said that “we wanted to link this campaign to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the death of the first president of Mozambique after independence, so thanks to Standard Bank we managed to provide to the people of his homeland IDs and other personal documents for free”.
In summary, Sumbana assured that “taking into account the number of people covered in two days, this citizenship campaign was very positive. It was a great achievement and a moment of joy for the Ministry of Home Affairs”.
In turn, the head of Chilembene locality, Romeo Ngovene thanked Standard Bank for promoting this campaign which, in his view, “in fact helped the population of this town and its surroundings, in addition to having shown that we have a great need for birth registration of the residents of this village”.
“The target group was excited. This campaign helped us to unlock various situations that prevented people from Chilembene and beyond, to address some pertinent issues for lack of documentation, such as opening a bank account”, said Romeo Ngovene.
After applying for ID for his younger son, aged 3 years old, Daniel Chaluco spoke about the importance of such campaigns for rural communities, particularly to the village of Chilembene, stating that “I think that this is a very good initiative and I did not expect that it was possible to get an ID in a fast and personalized way”.
After admitting that he did not expect that his son could have an ID so early, Daniel Chaluco assumed that “we have to congratulate Standard Bank for bringing this campaign to Chilembene. It was a unique opportunity”.
It should be noted that Standard Bank has promoted the citizenship campaign in various parts of the country since August 2011, this being the second time it has reached Gaza province, after the first one that was conducted in Chibuto.
