A group of 50 students from the Malangatana Valente Nguenha Secondary School in Maputo took a guided visit to Standard Bank headquarters, on Thursday, October 19, to learn about the operation of this financial services provider, as well as the profile of its employees.

The initiative is part of the “Company Open Week” project, implemented by MUVA, a program that works to ensure a better future for young people and women from urban neighborhoods in Mozambique, in partnership with the Academic Community for the Development of Education - CADE.

In addition to visiting some sectors of the bank, such as the Human Resources and Credit Department, the students also participated in a lecture about saving, and also received, at the end of the day, several gifts offered by Standard Bank.

While contextualizing the initiative, the MUVA program manager, Gabriel Machado, said that the project “Company Open Week”, called MUVA Horizonte, benefits a total of 500 students from five schools, which will visit various organizations under this program.

“MUVA Horizonte is a school and professional orientation project that includes several phases, such as access to school and professional information, which is part of this visit to Standard Bank”, he said.

According to Gabriel Machado, from the visit made to the centennial financial institution in the country, “the students had the opportunity to know how the bank operates, who are the staff employed there and which skills the staff are required to have”.

At Standard Bank, the student group was received by the Human Capital head, Hélia Campos, who at the time ensured that the bank found in this initiative a great opportunity to contribute to education.

“We are an institution that, within its social responsibility strategy, has education as one of its strong pillars, and this initiative from MUVA and CADE fits perfectly”, said Hélia Campos.

“During this visit, it was important to convey to the students the message that school is a very important factor for their professional future, and for our bank, it is also necessary to comply with professional ethics”, said. Hélia Campos, who informed that more than half of the 1,000 Standard Bank employees is aged between 20 to 39.

In the end, CADE facilitator, Henrique Sitoe, said that the visit to the bank was positive, since “the students had the unique opportunity to know how a banking institution works and what skills are required to become an employee of a bank as big as Standard Bank”.

“We are very glad and CADE is honoured to be part of the MUVA Horizonte initiative. We are grateful to Standard Bank for opening the doors of its headquarters for this visit”, said Henrique Sitoe.
