Standard Bank renews Moçambola sponsorship until 2020

The Managing Director, Chuma Nwokocha, and the President of the Mozambican Soccer League, Ananias Couana have signed the sponsorship agreement for Moçambola, the main national soccer competition, for five more years, untill 2020.

The agreement was signed in Maputo on Friday, the 19th of February 2016.With the agreement, estimated in fifty million meticais, as Chuma Nwokocha said the initiative is aimed at, “extending the support to Moçambola and to ensure that national soccer develops in qualitative terms so that it is as attractive as the international competitions”.

The decision to continue with the involvement of Standard Bank in Moçambola results from the increasing quality of the competition, as well as the continuing League competence in the management of the funds, as well as the huge passion of clients from Standard Bank and the entire Mozambican people for soccer.

The Managing Director stressed that “soccer is a major factor of social cohesion and, therefore, to support Moçambola is a way to help promote national unity”.

In his turn, Ananias Couana said “Standard Bank is a privileged partner that continuously and in a solid way has contributed to the progress of Moçambola. We renew our commitment to implement the available resources rigorously and transparently, in a way that is accountable to our members and partners”.

In addition to supporting the implementation of the national soccer championship, Standard Bank will provide more funds to support the annual gala of Moçambola as well as the prizes for the winners of each edition of the competition over the next five years.

Standard Bank’s investment in sport, and particularly in Moçambola, started in 2009, and follows the alignment between the objectives of Standard Bank, customers and the public in general, through soccer and is intended to boost Mozambican soccer, creating conditions for players to commit increasingly, making the championship more competitive.
