Standard Bank sponsors Mozambique Fashion Week

20 July 2011

Standard Bank joined the VII edition of the Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW),

as one of the main sponsors of the event which starts in Maputo on the 22nd of this month, with the presentation of collections dedicated to the spring/summer season under the theme “Dress Mozambique”.

Considered one of the most exciting events of the African fashion, the seventh edition of MFW will bring two new attractions, namely the contest “My School is in Fashion”, targeted at secondary schools and universities from the capital of the country and Mozambeat - contests for Mozambican DJ’s.

The project “My School is in the Fashion” aims to involve educational institutions in the Mozambique Fashion Week in order to boost the development of the Mozambican fashion industry, through the discovery of new artists/fashion designers, in schools and universities.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the VII edition of MFW, which took place on July 12, the director of Personal and Business Banking at Standard Bank, Chuma Nwokocha, said that the Bank decided to join the MFW because “it is not just a fashion event but a platform that promotes cultural exchanges between the peoples of Africa and of other parts of the world, it celebrates the African hood and this year the MFW will go to schools and universities, where Standard Bank has been very active in social projects aimed at creating job opportunities and training”.

“To take the Mozambique Fashion Week experience to schools is one way of telling young people that they should not be afraid of pursuing careers and dreams linked to the world of fashion, because it is, along with the music, one of the elements of the cultural industry that generates more revenue and employs a lot of young people”, Chuma Nwokocha explained.

With proven credits on the enhanced quality year after year, the Mozambique Fashion Week is already a coveted and competitive destination for international designers from Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, South Africa, Portugal and Italy.
