Standard Bank supports the Matola municipal library
Standard Bank offered a bibliographic collection consisting of several scientific works to the Matola Municipal Library
on Setember 21st, in order to provide a new academic and cultural impetus to the city. The ceremony was held at the library located in the Liberdade neighbourhood as part of its official opening to the public and it was attended by the managing director of Standard Bank, António Coutinho and also by the Matola City Mayor, Arão Nhancale.
The bibliographic collection includes several thematic approaches, including Fundamentals of Accounting, Course of Administrative Law, Environmental Education, Social Anthropology, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, among other important works for the academic citizens of the municipality.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the managing director of Standard Bank, António Countinho, said that “the support to the Matola Municipal Library is of great importance for the Bank, because, it is aligned with our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy and it reinforces the Standard Bank message to the youth of Matola and of Mozambique that they can only make a difference in their communities and in the municipality if they tirelessly devote themselves to studies”. “It is part of our strategy to invest in education in Mozambique since the country’s future depends on the quality of education in young people”, explained António Coutinho, managing director of Standard Bank, adding that “the investment we make in the Matola Municipal Library aims at creating conditions for young people to graduate so that one day they can make their contribution to the growth of the country’s economy”.
On his turn, the Matola City Mayor,Arão Nhancale, praised the gesture of Standard Bank, noting that previously the city did not have a decent library, where young students could do their research.
“The opening of this library was supported by various partners and Standard Bank is among those that believed in this project and joined to the efforts that the Matola municipality has been making in this area, which resulted in the strong support by means of a bibliographic collection”, said the Mayor of Matola.
