TABECH is the winner of the third edition of SeedStars Maputo
TABECH Serviços is the winner of the third edition of SeedStars Maputo, a startups competition for emerging markets, held on June 14, in Maputo, with the support of Standard Bank as the official partner and UX Information Technologies as local ambassador.
This startup will represent Mozambique at the SeedStars regional summit, scheduled for December this year in Maputo, and at the SeedStars World 2017 in Switzerland.
TABECH Serviços has presented a service called MovelCare, which uses mobile phones without access to internet to access funeral insurance.
Visibly moved by the decision of the jury, Tauanda Chare, founder of TABECH Serviços, highlighted the competitiveness of this contest, assuming that he did not expect the final victory. “I am very happy. I did not expect to win and I do not believe that this has happened, especially due to the quality shown by the other participants”, he said.
Regarding the presence at SeedStars World, Tauanda said that for Switzerland he will not only take his project but also our Country, being his main objective to place Mozambique at the stage of this world event.
“We will try to prove to the world that Mozambique is capable of producing something of great value”, said Tauanda, who at the time commended Standard Bank’s support to the initiative, which is fundamental “to bring another dynamic in the promotion of Mozambican startups”.
In the opening speech of this event, Standard Bank managing director Chuma Nwokocha expressed the Bank’s pride in being the main partner of SeedStars, which this year covered the whole country, with the participation of a startup from the province of Niassa among the 12 selected.
“We are here to demonstrate Standard Bank’s commitment of transforming the Mozambican economy by promoting its growth”, he said.
Chuma Nwokocha also praised the bank’s commitment to SeedStars Maputo, an event that, as he said, is growing every year.
“The growth in the number of applications of around 44%, compared to 2016, shows that this is a very relevant initiative for our country.” He said, having at the time wished good luck to all the entrepreneurs participating in the event.
The regional director of SeedStars for Africa, Cláudia Makadristo, spoke about the objectives of the Maputo event, indicating that the initiative aims to promote Mozambican entrepreneurs in the area of technological services, attract companies and investors to the national startups, as well as ensure their investment.
Cláudia Makadristo also stated that the mission of SeedStars is to generate investments in emerging markets, “we created this competition with the purpose of attracting investors to these same markets”.
“What started as a strategy, today has become a great movement. We started in 14 countries, but today we are in more than 70 countries around the world, including Mozambique”, said the Africa regional director of SeedStars.
It should be noted that a total of 12 startups participated in the competition, including Supevy, Crime-Down, Dream Solutions Enterprise, Fakul, Karingana Wa Karingana Textiles, Kharin, Olenvo, LavaMe, Side, TABECH Serviços, Tech4Kids Academy and AllTrack.
In addition to Standard Bank and UX Information Technologies, this initiative was also supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Shell, Internet Solutions, Castle Lite and Coca-Cola.
