Tennis Open closes with celebration
A festive atmosphere marked by the brilliant performance of Mozambican singer Gabriela, fireworks and confetti, for the closure of the Standard Bank Tennis Open, held on Saturday, May 26, in the courts of the Tunduro Garden in Maputo.
In the category of clients and employees from Standard Bank, Denise Chicalia and Faruk Ismael were the great winners in women’s singles and men’s singles, respectively.
At professional level, tennis players Feliciano dos Santos and Laura Nhavene became the greatest winners of the tournament by winning in the categories of men’s singles and women’s singles, accordingly. In the junior boys category, Michael West won the trophy, while Miriam Oliveira won the junior girls category.
With the aim to massify the practice of tennis in the country and contribute to the improvement of the competitive level of the mozambican athletes, the Standard Bank Tennis Open involved over 200 athletes, including more than 70 children.
Standard Bank provided all the technical requirements as well as the awards, trophies and medals in all categories in dispute, and even 260.000 meticais for the prize money to distribute in the categories of men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles.
Speaking to journalists moments after the prize giving ceremony, Antonio Coutinho, managing director of Standard Bank, assured that for the upcoming year, Standard Bank is committed to gradually improve the tennis sports project.
“We believe that the Open had much positive participation and much public interest, reason why we will continue to support the Tennis Open next year, similarly to what happens with soccer”, explained Antonio Coutinho.
