As a major sponsor of Mozambique Fashion Week (MFW), Standard Bank has proceeded with the prize giving to the Portuguese School, for winning the MFW School Contest, as part of the 8th edition of MFW. The contest was held in Maputo from 7 to 15 of December last year.

Part of the prize, a bibliographic collection estimated at USD $20,000, will be channeled to the project “Mabuku Ya Hina”, which aims to promote reading in the public and community schools in the whole country, providing learning services.

During the prize giving ceremony, the Head of Human Resources at Standard Bank, Helia Campos, said “the award represents a step forward on our project of equipping libraries of municipalities and Mozambican schools, as part of our corporate social responsibility”.

“It also serves to motivate management of this and other schools to monitor and motivate the participation of their students in the MFW School Contest”, explained Helia Campos.

On her turn, Ana Paula Relvas, coordinator of the Portuguese School Library, said “receiving books for us is always fantastic, because it enriches our collection and helps to train more and better readers, which is our ultimate goal not only within our school, but also in Mozambican schools”.

“We have a huge collection, but similarly to all other libraries, it is always incomplete. So, these books will greatly contribute so that our collection can get better and better and respond to requests”, said Ana Paula Relvas.

The Portuguese School won the MFW School Contest, as a consequence of the victory won by the student, Yunara Zaqueu, who, at the time, received as a prize 27 thousand Meticais and a trip to South Africa, where she attended a workshop provided by a reputable stylist of that neighboring country.

“I am grateful to Standard Bank, DDB, my parents and all the people who supported me in my participation on the MFW” said Yunara Zaqueu, during the prize giving ceremony of the bibliographic collection to her school.
