Standard Bank stands out in support of Education

Standard Bank was honored during the V National Education Gala, held on Friday, November 23, in Maputo, as an institution that stood out for its commitment to education in Mozambique, during the current year.

The certificate of recognition was presented to Standard Bank’s managing director, Antonio Coutinho, by education minister Augusto Jone at a ceremony that was attended by over 300 guests and was awarded the best students and teacher's of the country.

During the event, promoted by CADE - Academic Community for the Development of Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, journalists Alcides Tamele, Alexandre Manhiça and Silvestre Macuvele were announced winners of the award for best news story about education in the categories of print media, radio and television, respectively.

Standard Bank, which sponsored the award for the best news story about education, also offered professional internships to 5 of the 11 best students of the country. The beneficiaries are from the provinces of Sofala, Inhambane, Cabo Delegado, Niassa and Manica.

The managing director of Standard Bank, Antonio Coutinho, said that “Standard Bank, as a partner of CADE, supports the Education Gala to motivate teachers and students to achieve excellent levels of teaching and academic performance respectively, and complement the Government’s efforts to ensure a quality education for all”.

“We also sponsor the award for best TV report on education because we believe that journalists play an important role in spreading the message, and in creating spaces for debate to discuss the quality of education in the country”, said Antonio Coutinho.

Pedro Chuva is one of the students who will benefit from the internship offered by Standard Bank. He said he felt very happy because it is the dream of any student to be eligible for an internship to develop his or her skills: “What we have been studying in theory we now have an opportunity to put in practice”, said the student of the Sansao Muthemba Secondary School, congratulating Standard Bank for the initiative.
